Saudi Arabia Permits Searches in Istanbul Consulate Amid Journalist Disappearance - Ankara

Turkey has received a permit from Saudi Arabia to search its consulate general's building in Istanbul following the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said on Tuesday.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th October, 2018) Turkey has received a permit from Saudi Arabia to search its consulate general's building in Istanbul following the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said on Tuesday.

"Although in accordance with the Vienna Convention consular premises enjoy immunity, upon receiving the consent of the head of the diplomatic mission the authorities of a country, where this diplomatic mission is located, can carry out investigation there. The Saudi authorities stated that they were open for cooperation, and an investigation can be carried out in the building of the consulate general," the spokesperson's statement, obtained by Sputnik, read.

Aksoy added that "an inspection will be carried out in the Saudi consular premises" within the framework of the investigation into the Khashoggi case.
