Typhoon Kong-rey Hits Southwestern Japan, Over 90 Flights Canceled - Reports

Southwestern Japan has been hit by Typhoon Kong-rey, which is the second powerful storm to batter Japan in a week, a total of 92 flights have been canceled, local media reported on Saturday.

The NHK broadcaster reported that several people could have sustained injuries and that the typhoon had also disrupted some train services on Japan's southern Kyushu island.

Japan Meteorological Agency said that the typhoon was moving to the north and northeast, with its speed reaching 25 miles per hour, and warned people to watch out for floods and landslides, the outlet added.

The broadcaster also reported citing Kyushu Electric Power Company that about 5,200 homes had been left without electricity in the southwest of the country.�

�Last week, Japan was hit by another powerful Typhoon Trami, which claimed the lives of four people and injured over 200 others.
