EU Commission Notes Increasing Flight Safety By Russian Airlines - Russian Mission To EU

BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th October, 2018) The European Commission noted the growing safety of flights performed by Russian air carriers during bilateral consultations on the issue, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the European Union said on Friday.

"On October 5 in Brussels, the new round of bilateral technical consultations between Russia and the European Union on ensuring flight safety by the Russian airlines, conducting cargo and passenger flights to airports of members states of the SAFA [Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft] Program, was held ... The representatives of the European Commission noted the existing positive trend of increasing flight safety by the Russian airlines," the Russian Mission said in a statement.

The Russian delegation at the talks was led by Oleg Storchevoy, the deputy head of the Federal Air Transport Agency.

During the meeting, the parties had considered the results of checks of the Russian air carriers' planes, the mission added.

"The parties reaffirmed the high effectiveness of meetings in this format ... This format has not ever been suspended despite the freeze in the dialogue on transportation issues as a whole. The work in this area has been maintained since 2009," the statement noted.

Under the SAFA Program, established by the European Commission together with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), EU member states are able to inspect foreign aircraft landing in their airports and share the results of these checks with each other.
