Kiev Sends Note to Moscow Demanding Ukrainian Medics' Access to Sentsov - Foreign Ministry

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has sent a note to Russia requesting for an access for the country's doctors to filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who is currently serving a prison sentence in Russia for plotting terrorist attacks, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, Mariana Betsa, said on Friday.

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has sent a note to Russia requesting for an access for the country's doctors to filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who is currently serving a prison sentence in Russia for plotting terrorist attacks, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, Mariana Betsa, said on Friday.

Earlier in the day, Mikhail Fedotov, the chairman of the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, told Sputnik that Sentsov had written a statement announcing the end of his months-long hunger strike in the presence of his lawyers. The information was confirmed by Ukrainian ombudswoman Lyudmila Denisova. The filmmaker started the strike in May, with doctors monitoring his health condition throughout.

"We have just sent a new note demanding to give access for Ukrainian and international doctors to Sentsov for carrying out an independent examination [of Sentsov's health condition]," Betsa wrote on her Twitter page.

Sentsov was arrested in Simferopol in 2014. A year later, a Russian court sentenced him to 20 years in prison for setting up a terrorist cell Right Sector (banned in Russia), and plotting terrorist acts in the Crimean cities of Yalta, Sevastopol and Simferopol.
