WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) President of the United Nations General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa met with North Korea's envoy Kim Song to discuss recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, spokesperson Monica Grayley said in a briefing on Friday.

"President Espinosa has just had a meeting with his excellency Permanent Representative of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Ambassador Kim Song," Grayley told reporters. "She is encouraged by the latest developments with regard to the Korean Peninsula."

Espinosa believes the only way to resolve the current situation in North Korea is through political dialogue, the spokeswoman said.

The most recent inter-Korean summit, held on September 18-19, resulted in Seoul and Pyongyang signing a military agreement to cease large-scale artillery exercises and military flights near the demilitarized zone. This was the third meeting of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in in 2018. A fourth visit involving Kim visiting Seoul is expected to happen by the end of the year.
