North, South Korea Hold Ministerial Level Meeting in Pyongyang - Reports

South Korean Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon and his North Korean counterpart Ri Son Gwon held a meeting in Pyongyang on Friday, during which they discussed ways of implementing the agreement reached by the two countries' leaders in September, local media reported.

TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) South Korean Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon and his North Korean counterpart Ri Son Gwon held a meeting in Pyongyang on Friday, during which they discussed ways of implementing the agreement reached by the two countries' leaders in September, local media reported.

According to the Yonhap news agency, talks were held within the South Korean delegation's visit to Pyongyang for celebrations of the 11th anniversary of the 2007 inter-Korean summit. The delegation is comprised of around 160 South Korean governmental officials, including Lee Hae-chan, the leader of the ruling South Korean Democratic Party, and civic and religious leaders. It it set to return home by Saturday.

The 2007 summit was held on October 2-4 in Pyongyang between then South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and his then North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Il. While the two parties agreed to develop bilateral relations for the prosperity of the peninsula, their ties significantly worsened in the years to improve only in 2018.

The most recent inter-Korean summit, held on September 18-19, resulted in Seoul and Pyongyang signing a military agreement to cease large-scale artillery exercises and military flights near the demilitarized zone. This was the third meeting of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in in 2018. A fourth visit involving Kim visiting Seoul is expected to happen by the end of the year.
