Russian Lawmaker Slams Ukraine For Call To Oust Russia From UN Security Council

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) Russia was there at the beginning of the United Nations and will not leave it at Ukraine's behest, Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the Russian parliament's foreign committee, said Thursday.

"Our country stood at the cradle of the United Nations, created to protect human rights and world peace. It is certainly not up to Ukraine with its blatantly Nazi ideology to decide who should be in the Council," Zheleznyak was quoted as saying by his press office.

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal said Russia - a core member of the UN key executive body - must go after reports that Russian intelligence agency tried to hack a UN-backed chemical weapons watchdog.

Russia has vehemently denied Dutch accusations of organizing a cyber attack on the Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, calling them a "hoax" that is timed to an OPCW meeting on October 9 to discuss a new mechanism with a power to apportion blame.
