During the trip, Cho is expected to meet with his North Korean counterpart Ri Son Gwon to discuss further steps to implement the agreement reached by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in September, the media added.

The 2007 summit was held on October 2-4 in Pyongyang between then South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and his then North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Il. The two parties agreed to develop bilateral relations for the prosperity of the peninsula, however, the ties significantly worsened in the years to come over North Korea's nuclear aspirations.

The situation on the peninsula has significantly improved since the beginning of 2018 as Moon and Kim held three bilateral meetings and pledged to work for the peace between the two states.
