Month-Long US Exercise Includes Offensive Cyberspace Operations - Army

An annual cyber military exercise throughout the month of September included offensive cyber techniques, according to a US Army press release on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd October, 2018) An annual cyber military exercise throughout the month of September included offensive cyber techniques, according to a US Army press release on Wednesday.

"Soldiers and Army Civilians from US Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) and the US Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE) participated in Cyber Blitz 2018 (CB18) to exercise new concepts, capabilities and techniques for everything from offensive cyberspace operations (OCO) and defensive cyberspace operations (DCO), to electronic warfare (EW) and information operations (IO)," the release said.

The brief mention of offensive cyber operations - albeit with little detail - dovetailed with a new White House policy that authorizes the use of digital weapons to protect the nation from hackers.

National Security Adviser John Bolton announced the policy last month, noting that many restrictions against offensive hacking had been eliminated.

The Cyber Blitz exercise throughout September examined how the integration of offensive and defensive cyber operations with electronic warfare could help a brigade combat team gain the advantage against a peer adversary, the release said.
