Over 20,000 Rally in Munich Against Right-Wing Policies of Bavarian Government - Reports

Over 20,000 people in the Bavarian capital of Munich on Wednesday are taking part in a rally against what they deem as increasingly right-wing policies of the federal state's government, including a law that broadens police powers, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd October, 2018) Over 20,000 people in the Bavarian capital of Munich on Wednesday are taking part in a rally against what they deem as increasingly right-wing policies of the Federal state's government, including a law that broadens police powers, local media reported.

According to the Bild newspaper, the rally's organizers claim that the number of people participating in the demonstration has reached 40,000.

People are carrying banners criticizing leader of the Bavarian party Christian Social Union (CSU) and German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer as well as state's Minister President Markus Soeder, who is also a member of the CSU.

In May, the Bavarian government passed a controversial bill, which expands the powers of police, including by giving them the right to use online surveillance, facial recognition, postal seizures, drones, body cameras and preventative genetic DNA analyses.

In July, Seehofer presented his migration plan, which included creation of transit centers for migrants at the German-Austrian border. A month later, Bavaria became the first German state that opened migrant processing centers in the districts of Donauwoerth, Zirndorf, Regensburg, Deggendorf, Schweinfurt, Bamberg und Manching.
