Moscow Pays Little Attention To Envoys' Statements - Peskov About US NATO Envoy's Remark

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd October, 2018) Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday, commenting on the US envoy to NATO statement about the possibility to down Russian missiles, that Moscow did not pay great attention to the remarks made by the envoys since it had enough uncertainties with high-ranking politicians.

On Tuesday, US Envoy to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison said in a press briefing that the United States could eventually "take out" Russian missiles that are allegedly in development in violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

"[The Kremlin] prefers not to pay extra attention to statements by ambassadors while we have too many uncertainties with the messages on the higher level," Peskov told the CNN broadcaster.

Later on Tuesday, Hutchison wrote on her Twitter blog that she did not imply a preventive strike on Russia. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in turn, said that the statement by the US envoy to NATO constituted aggressive rhetoric.

The Soviet Union and the United States signed the INF treaty in 1987. It required the parties to destroy ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges of 311 miles to 3,317 miles. The two powers have repeatedly accused each other of violations.
