US-Led Coalition Conducts 64 Strikes in Syria, Iraq in Past Week - Joint Task Force

The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS, outlawed in Russia) terrorist group in Syria and Iraq carried out 64 strikes over the past week, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st October, 2018) The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS, outlawed in Russia) terrorist group in Syria and Iraq carried out 64 strikes over the past week, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a press release on Monday.

"Between September 24 and September 30, CJTF-OIR coalition military forces conducted 64 strikes consisting of 105 engagements in Iraq and Syria," the release said.

The coalition conducted 54 of the strikes near the Syrian border city of al-Bukamal, engaging IS tactical units and destroying command and control centers, weapons caches, IS compounds, vehicle-borne IEDs, fighting positions, a mortar, improvised explosive devises (IED), supply routes and a tunnel, among other targets, the release said.

In Iraq, the coalition carried out four strikes near Makmur Mountains, Ninevah desert and Hamrin Mountains, destroying IS bed-down locations, weapons caches and a cave, the release said.

US-led forces also conducted one strike on IS tunnels near Mosul and two strikes on weapons caches, a boat and a tunnel near Anbar Desert and Wadi-Ashai, the release said.

The coalition also targeted five IS tactical units near Iraq's Lake Hamrin and launched two strikes on a building and bed-down locations near Rawah, the release added.

The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the United Nations Security Council.
