US Govt. Confirms Plans to Ban Gun Bump Stocks Used in 2017 Las Vegas Massacre - Reports

The Trump administration is going to ban bump stock accessories used to convert semi-automatic rifles to full machine-gun use, a year after they were used in the deadliest massacre in modern American history, US media reported on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st October, 2018) The Trump administration is going to ban bump stock accessories used to convert semi-automatic rifles to full machine-gun use, a year after they were used in the deadliest massacre in modern American history, US media reported on Monday.

The US Department of Justice has drafted a new rule to ban bump stocks and sent it late last week to the Office of Management and Budget for review, NBC news reported.

After a review that could take 90 days, the proposal will be published in the Federal Register and would ban the manufacture, importation and possession of bump stocks, the report noted. Once the rule becomes effective, anyone owning a bump stock would be required to destroy it, it added.

On October 1, 2017, Gunman Stephen Paddock killed 58 people at a Las Vegas rock concert shooting from an elevated hotel window and used an arsenal of 22 semi-automatic rifles, including 14 equipped with bump stocks that let the guns shoot continuously with a single squeeze of the trigger.

US President Donald Trump urged the federal government to ban bump stocks in spring 2018. The National Rifle Association has signaled that it will not fight the proposed ban, the media outlet said.
