French President Says Late Aznavour's Legacy Destined to Last Long After Singer's Death

The songs and "the unique influence" of singer Charles Aznavour who has just passed away will last long after the performer himself is gone, French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday.

PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st October, 2018) The songs and "the unique influence" of singer Charles Aznavour who has just passed away will last long after the performer himself is gone, French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday.

Aznavour, 94, passed away in his home in the south of France on Sunday night.

"Deeply French, viscerally attached to his Armenian roots, recognized across the whole world, Charles Aznavour accompanied the joy and the pain of three generations. His masterpieces, his timbre, his unique influence will live much longer than he did," Macron said.

The French president added that he had invited Aznavour to sing at the summit of the Francophone countries, scheduled for October 11-12 in Yerevan.

French Minister of Culture Francoise Nyssen said the singer had represented the very essence of France for more than half a century.

"He sang about love, the time that passed, about joy and disappointment in life, about joyous moments and tender melancholy. One of the biggest French singers has just left us: a renowned performer eliciting admiration, loved across the world," the minister said in a statement.

Nyssen stressed that Aznavour, Armenia's permanent delegate to the United Nations, was "a generous person, a person loyal to his roots."

Aznavour was born in Paris to a family of Armenian immigrants. In his career spanning about 70 years, he sold over 100 million records.
