WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th September, 2018) US President Donald Trump and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera met earlier today to discuss regional security in the Americas and bilateral trade relations, the White House said in a press release.
"In Washington DC, today, President Donald J. Trump and President Sebastian Pinera of Chile held their first official meeting," the release said on Friday.
The White House explained the two leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthening the US-Chile economic relationship as well as to "cooperating on regional challenges, such as the crises in Venezuela and Nicaragua."
Trump and Pinera are urging the leadership in Venezuela to immediately allow international humanitarian aid into the country and to move toward restoring democracy, the release said.
The two leaders highlighted the success of the US-Chile Free Trade Agreement and pledged to expand fair and reciprocal trade, the release also said.
Moreover, Trump and Pinera committed to finding ways to increase cooperation on science, technology and innovation efforts, the release added.
