China Urges JCPOA Parties to Continue Implementation of Iran Nuclear Deal - Top Diplomat

Beijing calls on the international community to continue the implementation of the Iran nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in New York on Friday.

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) Beijing calls on the international community to continue the implementation of the Iran nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in New York on Friday.

"China urges parties concerned to continue observing and implementing JCPOA," Wang said in his address at the United Nations General Assembly.

The Chinese top diplomat called the Iran nuclear deal a "platform for inclusive and transparent dialogue."

He also underscored that now it is "crucial time" to continue the implementation of the agreement with Iran.

The JCPOA was signed in 2015 by Iran, the European Union and the P5+1 group of countries - China, Germany, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The deal stipulated the gradual easing of sanctions on Iran in exchange for Tehran maintaining the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.

US President Donald Trump announced in early May that the United States would pull out from the deal and restore wide-ranging sanctions on Iran.
