BRICS Foreign Ministers Discuss Sustainable Development On UNGA Sidelines - Moscow

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed sustainable development, maintaining peace and economic stability with his counterparts from the BRICS states on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"On September 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov participated in a traditional meeting of the foreign minister of the BRICS states of the sidelines of the UN General Assembly ... The ministers discussed the issues of maintaining peace and security, economic and financial stability and sustainable development," the ministry said in a statement, published late on Thursday.

The foreign ministers had reiterated their commitment to boosting mutual coordination on international platforms in their efforts to achieve the formation of a more just world based on the central role of the United Nations and international law in it, the statement added.

Moreover, the diplomats discussed further moves to implement the decisions made at the 10th BRICS summit in Johannesburg, which was held in July. Brazil informed the meeting participants about its plans for its chairmanship of the group in 2019.

The parties concluded a joint communique on the results of their meeting.

The 73rd UN General Assembly session began on September 18 and will last through October 5. During his visit to New York City for the event, Lavrov held various bilateral and multilateral meetings. On Friday, the Russian top diplomat will make a speech at the session.
