China's Participation in Russia's Vostok Drills Deepened Bilateral Trust - Spokesman

China's participation in the Vostok-2018 military exercise in Russia helped deepen the mutual trust between the two countries, as well as their ability to work together in ensuring regional security, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Ren Guoqiang said on Thursday.

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th September, 2018) China's participation in the Vostok-2018 military exercise in Russia helped deepen the mutual trust between the two countries, as well as their ability to work together in ensuring regional security, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Ren Guoqiang said on Thursday.

Vostok-2018, conducted on September 11-15, were the largest exercises held in Russia since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The maneuvers involved nearly 300,000 servicemen, 36,000 vehicles, up to 80 ships and support vessels, and over 1,000 aircraft. The drills have gained an international status, with troops from China and Mongolia taking part in one of the stages this year.

"The joint training of the armed forces of China and Russia deepened their friendship and mutual trust, promoted cooperation, and increased the ability of the armed forces of the two countries to jointly protect peace and security in the region, and respond to various types of threats," Ren told a briefing.

He noted that China's participation in these exercises was the largest in the history of the country in terms of the number of soldiers involved.

"In general, the Chinese side has achieved all its goals, and the Chinese military units demonstrated a satisfactory result," Ren said.

He added that China's participation in other strategic exercises in Russia would be decided upon in the event it was needed and agreed between both sides.
