Most Finnish Companies in Russia Plan to Stay in Market - Russian Government

Majority of large and medium Finnish companies working in Russia plan to stay there, although some investors have lately pulled out of the Russian market, the Russian government said Wednesday in the materials on Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Finland.

"Some investors have lately ceased their projects in Russia ... Nevertheless, most large and medium Finnish companies working in Russia do not intend to stop their work," the materials said.

Medvedev will meet his Finnish counterpart Juha Sipila on Wednesday as part of his one-day visit.

Oriola pharmaceutical retailer, Stockmann and Kesko were among the companies that left Russia.

Meanwhile, the Nokian Tyres built two factories producing 14 million tires a year, with a lot of them then being exported. The company has invested a total of 550 million Euros (about $647,000) in Russia. In 2017 alone, it invested 83 million euros.

YIT construction company is working on residential and commercial development projects in several Russian cities, as well as on infrastructure.

In January-July, the trade between the two countries grew by 29 percent and amounted to $8.7 billion. Russian export to Finland grew by 36 percent to $6.7 billion, while import increased by 10 percent and amounted to $2 billion.
