MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th September, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday on the margins of a UN assembly in New York he was ready to meet with US State Secretary Mike Pompeo.
The US top diplomat said Monday he was going to meet Lavrov this week but did not specify the date. The UN General Assembly will run through October 5.
Asked by media if he would meet with Pompeo, Lavrov replied, quoted by his ministry, "If he wants to. We never force ourselves on anyone. We have an agreement in principle to maintain contacts. We shall see."
Pompeo told reporters the United States was trying to find common ground where Washington could work effectively with Moscow, but claimed Russia tended to act against US interests.
