The Prosecutor General's Office in Germany's Frankfurt said in a press release on Monday that it had pressed charges against a man with dual German-Moroccan citizenship suspected of membership in the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia).

BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) The Prosecutor General's Office in Germany's Frankfurt said in a press release on Monday that it had pressed charges against a man with dual German-Moroccan citizenship suspected of membership in the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia).

"A 25-year-old defendant from Frankfurt is suspected of joining as a militant the IS terrorist organization in Syria," the press release, obtained by Sputnik, read.

The suspect flew from Frankfurt to Syria via Turkey as a leader of a group of seven in early July 2013. Once in Syria, the defendant assisted with registering new IS members, according to the press release.

The German prosecutors said the suspect was then trained at an IS base, but did not specify whether he participated in IS operations.

The man returned to Germany in late November 2013.
