Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will pay a visit to the United States on September 24-27 and will take part in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the Ukrainian presidential press service said on Monday.

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will pay a visit to the United States on September 24-27 and will take part in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the Ukrainian presidential press service said on Monday.

The UNGA 73 opened on September 18 and will last until October 5.

"On September 24-27, 2018, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will make a visit to the United States to participate in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly," the press service said in a statement.

According to the statement, Poroshenko is expected to deliver a speech at the UNGA general debate, participate in the UN Peacekeeping Summit and hold a number of meetings with the world's leaders.

During the UNGA, particular attention will be paid to strengthening the Ukrainian-US relations in trade, economy and investment. To this end, the Ukrainian president is expected to meet with the representatives of the US businesses, the press service added.

On Saturday, Poroshenko announced that an item on the situation "in the temporary occupied Ukrainian territories" had been added to the UNGA agenda. According to the Ukrainian permanent mission to the United Nations, the decision to discuss this issue was adopted by 68 votes in favor and 13 against, with Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia having rejected the proposal among others.
