Clashes Between Israeli Troops, Palestinian Protesters Leave Civilian Dead - Doctors

GAZA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) One Palestinian was killed on Friday in clashes with Israeli troops near the Gaza Strip border, spokesman for the Gaza Health Ministry Ashraf Qidra told Sputnik.

"A Palestinian aged some 20 years old was killed and 41 more sustained various injuries in clashes with the Israeli army near the eastern borders of the Gaza Strip," the spokesman said.

According to the Israeli army, more than 10,000 people took part in the Friday protests, burning tires, throwing stones as well as Molotov cocktails at Israeli soldiers and trying to break through the border. In response, the Israeli army resorted to special vehicles, guns and airstrikes in northern part of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army added that one soldier was injured and hospitalized.

Tensions between the Israelis and the Palestinians near the Gaza border have been mounting since late March, which marked the beginning of the Great March of Return. The recent disturbances on the Israeli-Gaza border have been caused by continued shelling and the launch of arson balloons by Hamas militants into Israeli territories.

The clashes have already left over 170 Palestinians dead and some 18,000 others injured.
