Natural Gas to Back Up Renewables in Reaching Decarbonization Goals - Enagas

Natural gas will serve as a back-up for the renewable energy in the process of achieving the decarbonization goals in the next 20-30 years, Spanish Enagas Executive Chairman Antonio Llarden said Monday.

BARCELONA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th September, 2018) Natural gas will serve as a back-up for the renewable energy in the process of achieving the decarbonization goals in the next 20-30 years, Spanish Enagas Executive Chairman Antonio Llarden said Monday.

"The main role that natural gas could play in the decarbonization process in the next 20-30 years is probably to be a back-up of renewable energy. The decarbonization process is very important for the world," Llarden said during a panel session at the Gastech conference in Barcelona.

Many industries use natural gas as fuel, Enagas executive chairman said.

"Here in Barcelona, 50 years was built the first regasification facility in mainland Europe," he added.

Regasification converts liquefied natural gas to natural gas, which can then be used for conventional purposes.

In 2016, Paris Climate Agreement focused on the mitigation of global warning went into effect. Each country that signed the agreement has to make and execute its own plan on lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
