Russian Investors Started Building Tourist Complex in Syria's Tartus - Tourism Minister

Investors from Russia have started building hotels and a tourist complex worth $90 million in Syria's coastal city of Tartus in accordance with contracts signed with Damascus, Syrian Tourism Minister Bishr Riad Yazigi told Sputnik on Monday.

DAMASCUS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th September, 2018) Investors from Russia have started building hotels and a tourist complex worth $90 million in Syria's coastal city of Tartus in accordance with contracts signed with Damascus, Syrian Tourism Minister Bishr Riad Yazigi told Sputnik on Monday.

According to Yazigi, Russian investors have a total of four tourism projects in Syria, three of which were secured before the start of the country's civil war in 2011.

"The last project worth $90 million is already being implemented. It envisages the construction of two hotels and a multifunctional tourist complex," the Syrian minister said.

He stressed that Syria was giving priority to Russian investors since none of them had withdrawn their capital during the conflict.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting against numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations.
