Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister, Roscosmos Chief Discuss Communications Satellites - Astana

Askar Mamin, the first deputy prime minister of Kazakhstan, and Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russian state space corporation Roscosmos, have discussed the prospects for cooperation on communications satellites, the press service of the Kazakh prime minister said on Monday.

ASTANA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th September, 2018) Askar Mamin, the first deputy prime minister of Kazakhstan, and Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russian state space corporation Roscosmos, have discussed the prospects for cooperation on communications satellites, the press service of the Kazakh prime minister said on Monday.

The meeting was held on Saturday in Moscow.

"Issues related to the creation of a special economic zone in the city of Baikonur, set to attract investment, are currently being discussed. The prospects for cooperation on the creation of space communications satellites have also been discussed during the meeting," the press service said in a statement.

Rogozin and Mamin also discussed the further work of the intergovernmental commission on the Baikonur space complex, according to the press service.

"In the course of the meeting, there has been an exchange of opinions on pressing issues of bilateral cooperation and on the prospects for further development of the the Baikonur complex, issues of implementation of joint Kazakh-Russian project Baiterek have been studied," the press service added.

Kazakhstan-based Baikonur cosmodrome, operating Russian and multinational space programs, is on lease to Russia until 2050. In 2004, Russia and Kazakhstan launched the Baiterek project, envisaging the creation of the infrastructure enabling the launch of eco-friendly rocket carriers from Baikonur.
