Turnout Rises At 2nd Round Of Governor Election In Russia's Primorsky Territory - Official

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th September, 2018) The Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered a calm atmosphere and a high turnout during the second round of local governor elections in the Russian Far Eastern Primorsky Territory, Evgeni Shevchenko, CEC member who supervises the situation in the region, told Sputnik on Sunday.

Andrei Tarasenko, the region's acting governor, and Andrei Ishchenko, member of the region's Legislative Assembly from the Communist Party, have made it to the second round according to the results of the vote held on September 9. Tarasenko secured 46.56 percent of vote, while Ishchenko gained support of 26.63 percent of voters.

"The atmosphere is calm at the election. People are actively voting," Shevchenko said.

He added that as of 3 p.m. local time (05:00 GMT), the voter turnout had amounted to 23.23 percent, while it had made 21.37 at the same time on September 9. This means that 340,359 persons have already voted in the region.
