Three militants were "neutralized" on Saturday in a counterterrorism operation in the east of the Russian Republic of Dagestan, the Russian National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) said in a statement.

According to the NAC, local security forces decided to launch the operation in Dagestan's eastern Karabudakhkentsky and central Buynaksky districts at 5 a.m. local time (02:00 GMT) as they obtained information on planned terror offenses.
"In the course of the search activities, carried out in the mountain-forested area in the vicinity of the settlement of Talgi, the law enforcement forces have found a group of militants, comprised of three persons, who opened fire with automatic weapons when they were suggested to surrender to the authorities. The Russian Federal Security Service's special forces have neutralized the militants," the statement read.
The NAC specified that the law enforcement forces had not sustained any losses, and there had not been any civilian casualties either. Weapons and ammunition have been found on the site.
