Kerry Defends Talks With Iranians, Tells Trump To Worry About Manafort-Mueller Meeting

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th September, 2018) Former Secretary of State John Kerry in a Twitter message advised President Donald Trump to pay more attention to Paul Manafort's cooperation with Special Counsel Robert Mueller than to his conversations with Iranians.

"Mr. President, you should be more worried about Paul Manafort meeting with Robert Mueller than me meeting with Iran's FM [Foreign Minister]," Kerry said via Twitter on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, Trump slammed Kerry for "illegal meetings with very hostile Iranian regime" and questioned whether Kerry has filed under the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA.)

Kerry referred in his tweet to the recent developments in former Trump campaign Paul Manafort's case. Manafort pleaded guilty to Federal charges and agreed to cooperate with Mueller's office in the investigation into allegations of Trump-Russia collusion and Russia meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.

On Wednesday, Kerry admitted that since leaving office he has secretly met at least four times with senior Iranian officials in an effort to "salvage" the Iranian nuclear deal. Kerry did not inform the Trump administration about the meetings, which took place in Norway, Germany and elsewhere.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denounced Kerry's activities and said the meetings with Iranian officials on the 2015 nuclear agreement were "unseemly and unprecedented."
