Russian Investigative Committee Completes Probe Into Theater Director Serebrennikov Case

The investigation into the criminal case against Russian film and theater director Kirill Serebrennikov, suspected of embezzling state funds, has been completed, Russia's Investigative Committee said on Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th September, 2018) The investigation into the criminal case against Russian film and theater director Kirill Serebrennikov, suspected of embezzling state funds, has been completed, Russia's Investigative Committee said on Friday.

"The probe into the criminal case against Kirill Serebrennikov, Alexei Malobrodsky, Yury Itin and Sofia Apfelbaum, charged with massive fraud, has been completed. The investigation believes that the defendants embezzled 133 million rubles [$2 million] out of 214 million allocated from the budget to non-profit Sedmaya Studiya [Seventh Studio] in 2011-2014," the committee's spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told reporters.

Petrenko specified that the criminal case concerning the studio's accountant Nina Maslyaeva would be treated as part of separate proceedings in the light of pre-judicial cooperation agreement, struck by the defendant with the investigation. Maslyaeva was still getting acquainted with the materials of the criminal case, the spokeswoman added.
