Manafort Seeks Plea Deal With Mueller Ahead Of Second Trial - Reports

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th September, 2018) US President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort is negotiating a potential plea agreement with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office, local media reported on Wednesday.

Mueller's office is asking Manafort to provide information related to Trump and the 2016 election campaign, but Manafort is seeking a deal that would avoid such cooperation, ABC news reported, citing sources familiar with negotiations.

The discussions come weeks before the second trial in Manafort's case, which is slated to begin later in September in Federal court in Washington, DC.

Manafort has already been found guilty on eight counts, including bank fraud and tax evasion during his work in Ukraine. The court declared a mistrial on ten other counts.

Mueller is heading an investigation into allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, as well as accusations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow. Russia and Trump have repeatedly denied allegations of collusion, and Moscow has refuted charges of interfering in US internal affairs.
