Surveys on UN Behalf Discouraging Syrian Refugees From Returning Home - Russian Military

Syrian refugees currently residing in the neighboring countries are being asked to fill in questionnaires on behalf of the United Nations that dissuade them from returning to their home country, Russia's National Defense Control Center head Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th September, 2018) Syrian refugees currently residing in the neighboring countries are being asked to fill in questionnaires on behalf of the United Nations that dissuade them from returning to their home country, Russia's National Defense Control Center head Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev said on Wednesday.

"The so-called work with the Syrian nationals, who have expressed their wish to return to their homeland, is ongoing in the countries neighboring Syria on behalf of the UN Refugee Agency, using special questionnaires," Mizintsev said at a joint meeting of Russian and Syrian interdepartmental coordination centers on the return of Syrian refugees.

Mizintsev did not rule out that the questionnaires were used by the "forces" unrelated to the official UN agencies but stressed that they were aimed at making Syrians doubt their decision to return home.

According to the Russian refugee return center, more than 1.7 million Syrian refugees from nine countries have expressed their desire to return to Syria.
