EU States Fail to Effectively Fight Air Pollution - EU Court of Auditors

EU member states have failed to undertake effective effort in fighting air pollution, the EU Court of Auditors said on Tuesday in a report.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th September, 2018) EU member states have failed to undertake effective effort in fighting air pollution, the EU Court of Auditors said on Tuesday in a report.

"Air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to health in the European Union ... While air quality has been improving, most Member States still do not comply with the EU's air quality standards and were not taking enough effective action to sufficiently improve air quality," the report reads.

The report notes that every year, air pollution causes some 400,000 premature deaths in the bloc, while the 2008 Ambient Air Quality Directive, the main document regulating the EU clean air policy, needs to be updated.
