Eleven terrorists were killed in a shootout with the Egyptian police in an area near the city of Arish, located in the north of the Sinai Peninsula, local media reported on Monday.

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th September, 2018) Eleven terrorists were killed in a shootout with the Egyptian police in an area near the city of Arish, located in the north of the Sinai Peninsula, local media reported on Monday.

The terrorists were killed near an abandoned gas station, which had been used by extremists as a foothold for preparing attacks against the security forces, the middle East news Agency (MENA) reported.

Two of the killed terrorists had been wanted as dangerous criminals, the agency added.

Law enforcement reportedly seized assault rifles, various munitions and two explosive devices at the site of the shootout.

The Egyptian authorities have for years been engaged in anti-terror activities on the Sinai Peninsula, where militants have repeatedly staged deadly attacks. In 2014, a state of emergency was introduced on the peninsula after militants attacked Egyptian security officers in the area.
