Russian Upper House Speaker Says Starting Her Visit To N.Korea Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th September, 2018) Valentina Matvienko, the speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, told Sputnik she is starting an official visit to Pyongyang on Friday, where she will represent Russia at the celebration of the 70th anniversary of North Korea.

"On behalf of the Russian president, I will represent our country at solemn events in honor of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea," Matvienko said.

She said she will hand Russian President Vladimir Putin's message to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang.

Matvienko said Russian lawmakers are ready to contribute to ensuring peace, stability and dialogue on the Korean Peninsula.

The Federation Council's press service said the upper house speaker will meet in Pyongyang with Kim Yong Nam, who is the president of the Presidium of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly, and with parliamentary speaker Choe Thae Bok.
