TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th September, 2018) Russian Consulate General in the Japanese city of Sapporo, which suffered from a powerful earthquake, works in normal mode, despite a partial power outage, Consul Roman Kolesnik told Sputnik on Thursday.

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake was registered at 18:08 GMT Wednesday some 67 kilometers (42 miles) from the city of Sapporo on Hokkaido Island.

"As of now, neither we nor the Hokkaido governors have information about injuries of anyone of our compatriots. There is no damage to the building of the consulate general, but there is no light, we work on autonomous power sources," Kolesnik said.

He added that the consulate general continued to operate in the regular mode, despite the inconveniences, as not all computers are working.

"Reception of visitors will begin after lunch, if the electricity is restored by that time, there will be no malfunctions," the consul said.

According to the police and fire department, 125 people were injured in the earthquake, 20 others are reported missing. Almost 3 million homes are left without electricity.
