WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th September, 2018) US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States is still in discussions with Canada regarding a deal to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
"Canada's meeting with us as we speak," Trump told reporters. "We have to make a fair deal with Canada."
On August 28, Trump announced a 16-year preliminary trade agreement in principle between the United States and Mexico and said he was optimistic about the possibility Canada would join the deal.
However on Saturday, Trump threatened to eject Canada from the new deal if the sides failed to reach a fair agreement.
Canada, Mexico and the United States have been engaged in talks to revamp the agreement for over a year at US President Donald Trump's initiative.
