Guterres Holds Talks on Middle East Peace Plan With Greenblatt, Kushner- UN Spokesman

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has met with White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt to discuss the US peace plan for Israel and Palestine, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th September, 2018) United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has met with White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt to discuss the US peace plan for Israel and Palestine, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

"Well I think the Secretary-General has had conversations with Mr. Greenblatt, with Mr. Kushner not too long ago on their work," Dujarric said. "We look forward to the plan being shared with the secretary-general in due time."

On Tuesday, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley told reporters that the US peace plan was "getting close" to being finished but would not be rolled out during high-level week at the UN General Assembly.

US President Donald Trump has promised to take steps toward settling the long-standing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The Middle East peace process took a hit last December when the United States decided to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The move was condemned by Arab states and rejected by European nations. Palestine responded by refusing to allow the United States to remain the Primary mediator in peace talks with Israel.
