Pompeo, Dunford Meet Senior Pakistani Officials to Discuss Military, Diplomatic Relations

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Wednesday that he and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) General Joseph Dunford discussed military and diplomatic relations with Pakistani officials during their meeting earlier the same day in Islamabad.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th September, 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Wednesday that he and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) General Joseph Dunford discussed military and diplomatic relations with Pakistani officials during their meeting earlier the same day in Islamabad.

"In Pakistan with my colleague & friend CJCS Gen Joe Dunford. Today we met with PM [Prime Minister] Imran Khan & FM [Foreign Minister] Shah Mehmood Qureshi to discuss our diplomatic & military to military relationship," Pompeo said in a Twitter message.

Earlier on Wednesday Qureshi said he planned to talk with Pompeo about Washington's decision to cancel $300 million in aid to Islamabad. Washington had explained the decision to cut the aid was due to the lack of results in Islamabad's fight against terrorist networks.

After his stop in Pakistan, Pompeo is scheduled to travel to New Delhi for the 2+2 dialogue with US Defense Secretary James Mattis and their Indian counterparts.
