South Korean President's Envoy Meets With N. Korean Workers' Party Official - Reports

Chung Eui-yong, South Korean President Moon Jae-in's special envoy, arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday to hold a meeting with Kim Yong Chol, the vice chairman of the Central Committee of the North Korean ruling Workers' Party, media reported.

TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th September, 2018) Chung Eui-yong, South Korean President Moon Jae-in's special envoy, arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday to hold a meeting with Kim Yong Chol, the vice chairman of the Central Committee of the North Korean ruling Workers' Party, media reported.

Previous reports indicated that Chung had brought a letter from the South Korean president, however, it is still not clear whether a meeting with North Korean leader Kin Jong Un will take place.

According to Yonhap news agency, the delegation from Seoul also included National Intelligence Service Director Suh Hoon and Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung.

After the meeting with Kim Yong Chol, the South Korean officials were asked to move to an undisclosed venue for official talks.

This visit is aimed at making arrangements for the third high-level summit of the two Koreas, which is expected to take place later in September in Pyongyang, according to the media outlet.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula has significantly improved over the last months, with North Korean leader having held several rounds of talks with his South Korean counterpart and a summit with US President Donald Trump in Singapore.
