KRYNICA-ZDROJ (Poland) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 05th September, 2018) ZDROJ (Poland), September 4 (Sputnik) - The program of construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Poland is likely to be submitted to the government before the end of the year, Polish Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchorzewski told Sputnik on Tuesday.
The ministry has published a report deeming rational to construct a 4,500-megawatt NPP in the country by 2040.
"We are at the stage of preparing the program to be considered by the cabinet of ministers ... I think that [this will happen] this year," he said.
Tchorzewski noted that he would be speaking in favor of building an NPP before the cabinet.
At the moment, there are no NPPs in the Eastern European country. Warsaw had plans to construct an NPP during Communist rule, however the project has not been implemented for a number of reasons, including public opinion opposing nuclear energy in the wake of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
