US Capitol Police arrested 22 people who were protesting during a confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, media reported on Tuesday.

Demonstrators demanded the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject President Donald Trump's candidate for the Supreme Court and to adjourn the hearing, The Hill reported citing police.

The two dozen of protesters were arrested on charges of disorderly misconduct, according to the newspaper.

Kavanaugh's hearing is currently in progress, despite some Democratic senators' attempts to cancel the event. Democrats claimed they needed more time to review the nominee's records.

Trump announced the nomination of Kavanaugh on July 9 to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who stepped down from the US high court.
