Australian Energy Council Head Calls for Bipartisan Policy on Energy

The bipartisan policy on climate and energy would give the right signal to investors amid recent changes in the government, Head of the Australian Energy Council Sarah McNamara said on Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th September, 2018) The bipartisan policy on climate and energy would give the right signal to investors amid recent changes in the government, Head of the Australian Energy Council Sarah McNamara said on Tuesday.

Malcolm Turnbull left the office of the prime minister and his seat in parliament in late August amid energy policy debate in the government.

"It is certainly not looking positive for a bipartisan climate and energy policy at the moment, but it's bipartisanship that's really the key to send the kind of investments signal we need," McNamara told SkyNews Australia broadcaster.

Energy companies need some certainty regarding requirements on emissions, the head of Australian Energy Council, which represents interests of major energy businesses, said.

In late 2017, the Turnbull government proposed the national energy guarantee, a policy that aimed at reduction of emissions. The policy met with opposition in the parliament, in part, over the decision to legislate the reduction target, which was later dropped.
