Macron's Approval Rating Drops 10 Points to 31% in One Month - Poll

Only 31 percent of the French are satisfied with the work of President Emmanuel Macron, compared to 41 percent in July, a poll showed Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th September, 2018) Only 31 percent of the French are satisfied with the work of President Emmanuel Macron, compared to 41 percent in July, a poll showed Tuesday.

Only 22 percent believe that the president understands the concerns of the population, according to Ifop poll for the Paris Match newspaper and the Sud-Radio broadcaster.

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe enjoys slightly bigger support of 35 percent of the French, losing three points since July.

Macron's predecessor Francois Hollande was supported by 32 percent of the French at the same period of his term in September 2013.

The poll was carried out online on August 30-31 among 1,015 people aged 18 and older.

Macron's approval ratings are slipping following the July scandal, involving his former security aide, Alexandre Benalla, who was caught on camera hitting a protester during the May Day demonstrations in Paris. The Elysee fired the embattled aide. Benalla has since been charged with violence and interfering in the work of public services.

In August, Ecology Minister Nicolas Hulot suddenly resigned, claiming that lobbies' close ties to the authorities hampered his work on environmental issues.
