Iraq Rebuts Claims of Barring Russian Military Aircraft From Entering Country's Airspace

Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Haidar Hadi has refuted reports claiming that Iraq did not let Russian a military aircraft into its airspace on Friday, the Iraqi Embassy in Moscow told Sputnik on Saturday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st September, 2018) Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Haidar Hadi has refuted reports claiming that Iraq did not let Russian a military aircraft into its airspace on Friday, the Iraqi Embassy in Moscow told Sputnik on Saturday.

Media reported on Friday that the Iraqi authorities allegedly barred a Russian Tu-154M plane heading for the Latakia province in western Syria to enter Iraq's airspace.

"Iraq refutes reports distributed by certain media, regarding the denial of access to Iraqi airspace for a Russian plane. Iraqi Ambassador to Moscow Haidar Hadi refutes the information," the embassy's press service said.

Hadi told Sputnik that the news had been fabricated in an attempt to impact the relations between the two countries. He also said that Baghdad and Moscow were continuing to cooperate in the Baghdad Information Center, which was established by Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria in 2015 to join their efforts in fighting the Islamic Sate terrorist group (banned in Russia).
