An Apple autonomous vehicle got into an accident in the western US state of California, the Department of Motor Vehicles said in a statement.
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st September, 2018) An Apple autonomous vehicle got into an accident in the western US state of California, the Department of Motor Vehicles said in a statement.
"On August 24th at 2:58 PM [21:58 GMT], an Apple test vehicle in autonomous mode was rear-ended while preparing to merge onto Lawrence Expressway South from Kifer Road. The Apple test vehicle was traveling less than 1 mph waiting for a safe gap to complete the merge when a 2016 Nissan Leaf contacted the Apple test vehicle at approximately 15 mph. Both vehicles sustained damage and no injuries were reported by either party," the statement issued on Friday read.
This is the first accident involving an Apple autonomous vehicle, while the company reportedly started tests of self-driving cars in early 2017.
Apple is said to have produced some 60 autonomous vehicles that continue to be tested.
