Russia's Investigative Committee Opens Probe in DPR Leader's Assassination

Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into the assassination of Alexander Zakharchenko, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine, considering it an act of international terrorism, spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into the assassination of Alexander Zakharchenko, the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine, considering it an act of international terrorism, spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said Friday.

Zakharchenko was killed in a staged bomb blast in a cafe in downtown Donetsk earlier in the day. DPR Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Timofeev, who accompanied Zakharchenko, is in grave condition in a hospital.

"Russia's Investigative Committee, based on the existing international experience in the investigation of terrorist acts, is ready to provide all possible assistance to law enforcement agencies of the Donetsk People's Republic in the probe," Petrenko added.
