The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirms the death of self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) leader Alexander Zakharchenko, but rejects accusations of involvement, SBU spokeswoman Elena Gitlyanskaya said Friday.

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirms the death of self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) leader Alexander Zakharchenko, but rejects accusations of involvement, SBU spokeswoman Elena Gitlyanskaya said Friday.

A blast occurred earlier Friday in a restaurant several hundred meters from Zakharchenko's residence. The DPR authorities said Zakharchenko was killed in the explosion, and blamed his death on Ukrainian security services.

"We confirm this information [about Zakharchenko's death], but Ukrainian security services have nothing to do with this. In our opinion, this was the result of wars between local leaders dividing something," the UNN agency quoted Gitlyanskaya as saying.
