Russia's Roscosmos Concluding Tests of Egypt-Commissioned Satellite - Director General

Russia's State Space Corporation Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin announced on Friday that the company was completing the construction and testing of a remote sensing Earth observation satellite, which Russia had developed for Egypt, and planning to launch the vehicle by the end of this year.

KOROLEV (Moscow Region) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 31st August, 2018) Russia's State Space Corporation Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin announced on Friday that the company was completing the construction and testing of a remote sensing Earth observation satellite, which Russia had developed for Egypt, and planning to launch the vehicle by the end of this year.

"We are concluding the construction and tests of the opto-electronic satellite Egyptsat-A. We are creating it for our old friends and partners from Egypt's National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences," Rogozin said, adding that the launch of the satellite was scheduled for this year.

A source in the space industry has told Sputnik earlier that the launch is set for November 22.

Egyptsat-A is a modified version of Egyptsat-2 featuring an improved opto-electronic system, high-speed on-board radio link and solar cells with increased efficiency.
