Austrian Chancellor Says Aims to Boost Ties With Singapore at Talks With Senior Officials

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Thursday that he was pleased to meet with Singapore President Halima Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his official visit to the island and stressed the need to further enhance bilateral cooperation.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th August, 2018) Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Thursday that he was pleased to meet with Singapore President Halima Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his official visit to the island and stressed the need to further enhance bilateral cooperation.

"Singapore and Austria enjoy excellent political and well established economic relations with a trade volume of more than 500 Mio [about $585 million] per year," Kurz said on Twitter, adding that Austria was prepared to establish an innovation partnership with Singapore.

According to the Austrian chancellor, at the talks the sides discussed bilateral cooperation on such global challenges as cyber security, trade and climate change ahead of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Brussels on October 18-19.

Kurz also said Vienna and Singapore had a common objective to sign a free trade deal between the European Union and Singapore on the sidelines of the ASEM summit.
